APD'S STORY
1987
Based in a small premise in Eastriggs, south west Scotland, Amber Electrical was founded by Elliot Graham and John Strong. Not just colleagues but friends, they started the journey specialising in industrial rather than domestic electricals.
1990
Elsewhere "Programmable Industrial Design Ltd" (PiD) founded by Jim Main opened its doors, specialising in sophisticated bespoke automation software.
1995
Amber Electrical quickly grew to be a recognised electrical panel builder, winning multiple national awards including "Panel Builder of the Year" in 1995. During these years PiD had also grown & the two companies worked closely, complementing each others skills.
1996
The two companies were getting a reputation for supplying turnkey systems that many competitors found too challenging. At the same time both had out-grown their premises. A new building was found to share, before realising the obvious unique business opportunity and in June 1996, the two companies merged & Amber Programmable Design (APD) was born.
2006
Due to continued growth and numerous opportunities arising in the Oil & Gas industry, a second office was opened in Aberdeen.
Today
Now in our 4th decade of innovation, the company continues to strive for new challenges in new sectors, applying the experience and collective knowledge gained to provide solutions to existing & new clients, right across the globe.
The Future
The future is bright, but the future must be green. Without doubt, one of the most important sectors for all our future’s is how we can design, engineer & build systems to maximise the use of renewables, energy storage, geo-thermal, smart distribution systems & hydrogen. To that end APD has set up a new division with systems already designed and ready for launch to handle these critical applications.
