Solar Photovoltaic Training

APD has added another string to its skills bow.

Project Engineer Grant Elliot recently took part in a 4 day Solar PV course in Chesterfield, delivered by NICEIC. The training and assessment are designed to provide the necessary skills for the design, installation, testing, commissioning, handover, servicing and fault finding of solar photovoltaic systems in accordance with the latest NOS/QCF criteria and MCS scheme requirements.

The course included:

  • Health & safety risks and safe systems of work

  • Regulations/standards relating to PV system installation work and pre-work surveying

  • The purpose of PV system components

  • Types and characteristics of PV modules

  • Estimating annual energy performance

  • Layouts and requirements for the installation of PV module arrays

  • PV system protection techniques and components

  • Initial inspection, testing and commissioning

  • Handover of solar PV systems

  • Routine inspection, servicing and maintenance of solar PV systems

  • Diagnose and rectify faults in solar PV system installations

Grant attained a level 3 award and can now install, test and sign off small solar PV systems. Great job!
